South Floridians gather, show support for boy who nearly drowned

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- South Florida residents gathered on Sunday to show their support for a near-drowning victim. Family, friends and strangers gathered around Broward Health Medical Center's flagpole to send positive energy to 1-year-old James Edwards. Edwards almost drowned last month but was quickly rescued from a Coral Springs pool and given CPR.

Visitors decorated the hospital in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle memorabilia to show their support. The event was put together by Lainie Jones, a four-time cancer survivor. She said, "I just think it's amazing cause I just want to pay it forward for this little boy because everybody helped me in my time of need, so I know how important this is." James is currently being cared for at the Chris Evert Children's Hospital. His family said they appreciate all of the prayers and donations they have received.
